See this - this is the real thing!

The Twilight Samurai has not been nominated for an Oscar for nothing... by leaving The Last Samurai out in the cold is a positive indication that the Oscar is maturing and hopefully too is the American taste in their movies. After you see this very good show you will know how Hollywood laughable and contrived The Last Samurai really is and had to suffer the downhill post-Jerry Mcguire Tom Cruise to boot.
If you really want to know samurais, then go see this well constructed protrayal of humanity in the era where the samurais had to come to terms with the end of their own history. This is the real mccoy - leave the Japanese to know their samurais and what went on near the end of their reign and the beginning of the Meiji period.
Tom Cruise's bad acting and equally mannequin character posing around a whole lot of other silly stereotypes in The Last Samurai is a far cry from the well-fleshed out characters here. Don't expect Hollywood choreographed and posed to the T type of action and rowdy fight scenes. Expect a down to earth man-to-man realistic sword fight without the flying around and angled screenshots.
Just go see it! |
