The Twilight Samurai is an interesting tale if one can hold up an attention span of nearly 2 and a half hours and know nothing about samurai. In a quiet village, a town is full of all-powerful samurai with the only decent one harassed. He lives a poverty-driven lifestyle and tries to live in peace with his two little girls in the town. However, when he accidentally disgraces an emperor's son, a number of events begin to take place and he is forced to take up the sword once more. The Twilight Samurai honestly has a decent idea with some beautiful cinematography but is incredibly slow-moving. People expecting Kurosawa-style fight scenes are going to be sorely disappointed. The film also seems to become drastically scene before and borrows from several other films (the ending shares some similarities with the premise of Apocalypse Now). Also, the film fails to portray samurai accurately and the final battle is very poorly done. Fans of foriegn cinema may enjoy this film, others are highly advised to back off and save yourself 2 hours and 30 minutes of boredom.
