Some reviews have commented on how "it's something we all know" and how "no one eats like that" True, but I don't think any of us realized just HOW bad. and there are people who do eat every day at McDonalds. The point that the movie ultiamtely points out is that individually an occasional McMeal isn't going to harm you, however when you eat nothing but processed, prepacked foods, the collective effect can be quite serious on a person's health.
The movie demonstrates how eating good is not viewed as anyones repsonsibility, and how corporations exploit childrens gullibility and desire for fun foods, sweets and the like to creative a need for life. Learned in childhood, it becomes a habit difficult to break from.
Numerous reviews point out that Spurlock only eats the bad foods at McDonalds, that he didn't eat the healthier choices. #1: that is is incorrect. he ate everythingat least once, and he ate them in a ratio equal to what he observed people eating in real life. He observed peoples order habits and found that salads are ordered once by every 8 or 9 people, so he ate salads in that ratio. #2: there really isn't anything healthy at McDonalds. The salads have as much fat and sodium as the biggest burgers. The small parfait may not be a bad choice, but when eaten with the granola or when ordered in a large, its as bad as a hot fudge sunday. Simply put: you really can't eat healthy at McDonalds. period.
A sobering lesson.
I've needed to lose weight for a while, and this movie was just the kick in the gut I needed to get off my mcDuff and start doing something about it. I'll start by eating less at fast food and ordering smaller sizes. Hopefully I won't be supersized for much longer. |
