Who needs a surprise ending?

Okay, first off, movies like this only come out once in awhile. I say enjoy them when they do.
If any of you are familiar with Donnie Darko, this movie is similar. Lynch builds up a complete history, leading you one way, then the other, then on a completely different path. As you sit and watch, it's most likely you're confused as hell. Everyone seemed to be expecting a solid ending, with some sort of twist no one would guess. But why ruin a movie by making it cliched? I was with a group of people, and they were all whispering "oh, now they'll explain it all!" But I knew they wouldn't. By this point I was in love with the movie, with all the layers and details. Things mentioned at the beginning were subtly brought up, such as people and things they said.
Another thing that was wonderful was the scene transitions. Absolutely genius.
It takes a certain kind of person to truely appreciate open ended movies. For those who don't like a movie to leave you with all kinds of thoughts and possibilities with no positive "right" answer, Stay isn't for you.
And for those who are, I highly recommend this one. |
