Not so. If you are a Fox viewer, you'd think all Muslims are terrorists. If you are a Bin Laden lover, you'd think all infidels deserve death... well this movie puts back into perspective some of the stories Historians write about the Crusades, the goodness and nobility of leaders of the past. The chivalry and honor shown by the leaders, and how a small group always manages to cause trouble.
Being a history Buff, I thought (rightly so) it made both sides very human. There are bad people on both camps as there are good people the same. One camp is not necessarily better than the other. Ridley gives some historical perspective of this facet of history that is rarely depicted.
There's a bit for everyone (except the Fox viewer and the Bin laden lover).
Even if as some would contend, the history presented therin is flawed, what I got out of it, is that this is how I'd like to have it been, these people shown on both sides have the character I'd like my kids to grow up as.
I fear however, in the end, the movie will make no one happy and fade into obscurity.... me I will go watch it again. |
