Tina Fey, where have you been all these years? Not since the Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles have there been such a teen movie that actually we can relate to in some way by saying, "I was like that" or "I knew someone like that".
The 90s was a complete downfall for teen movies. The only ones worth watching again were Clueless and 10 Things I hate About You.

Mean Girls does something completely different from other teen movies. Instead of it being the popular girls vs. the average girls becoming prom queen or whatever it shows the popular girls vs. themselves. FINALLY a movie that tells "Girl World" as it is. If it was a drama, this would have been done with an "average" bunch of girls. But since its a comedy, who else to poke fun of but the rich gorgeous snobby shopaholic girls? And then throw in an "average" girl to make the whole school publicly announce that they hate them. Wow that sounds stupid right? WRONG.

Tina Fey was inspired by the book "Queen Bees and the Wannabes" and used a different strategy in the plot. Why not make the "average" girl Cady (played by Lindsey Lohan) fight the popular girls a.k.a. "The Plastics" from the inside by becoming one of them. For the first time people, especially boys, are aware that girls can be extremely nasty to not just people they don't like outside of their group but their friends too.

Lindsey showed off her best in this movie. Her acting from the innocent homeschooler to the hot plastic girl wasn't choppy but made a smooth transition.
"The Plastics" played by Rachel, Lacey and Amanda were fun to watch too. I have to say that I think out of all the girls Rachel was the best actress. She played the sweet but mean Regina best. Whenever she commented on someone's outfit and then bashed it when they left was so real. What girl hasn't lied to someone by saying they look really pretty but then thought in their head "Ugh, I can believe she wore THAT!". Although Lacey's character, Gretchen, was really annoying and fake there was something real to her character too. She was defientely a follower but because she had no else to go too. Without Regina she was alone. Haven't we all been a follower where we've hung around someone just because we wanted to fit in even if it meant being treayed lower by him/her? Amanda's character Karen was just for complete laughs. And even though the dumb characters end up being pointless for the film she actually has some really funny lines and expressions.

But the teen girls aren't the only ones stealing the film. SNL's Tina Fey and Amy Phoeler are funny too. Amy plays Regina's mom who thinks she's still 18 and is a "cool mom". She tries so hard to be like and its so funny. Tina's got some witty funny lines too.

Janis and Damien are also great characters in the film too. I think Janis is the most realistic because she's like the mind of all us teen girls. Whenever she bursts out in an angry rage on someone, I've thought of the exact thing but afraid to act. This is the first time I have ever seen on film a gay person who isn't hot and has a high "gay" voice like Jack in Will & Grace or the Queer Eye guys. Finally they portay a gay without making them trying to act or look feminine. When I had seen the trailors I had no idea he was gay.

And the cafeteria map? Surprisingly true. Everyone has their cliques. The Asians, the blacks, the nerds, the jocks, the preppy guys & girls, etc.

The ending is very happily every after-ish but other than that the plot is quite realistic and funny.

So should you see Mean Girls? Hell yes, I'm seeing it again. This movie will be remembered like the Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles but for the millienium teen movies.
