I was very disappointed in this movie. In this movie, they portray Bridget Jones as a bumbling idiot, not to mention that she is at least thirty pounds heavier then the first one, forgot the benefits of wearing makeup and has too many bad hair days. Quite a turn of events for only six weeks later in her life...
In the first movie she was sweet, self-conscious, but determined to succeed, much like normal people. And much like with normal people sometimes she did not succeed. Fortunately in the end she got the guy and was happily ever after.
In this movie, her personnality has changed. The jealousy is normal (how many of us really can't believe our luck to have a great partner, just to think that there must be a "catch"?). But even Bridget is smart enough not to keep on repeating the same mistakes. How many times can you barge into important meetings and just blurt out what you're thinking, in front of strangers?
And was it with all the shots of her waddling around, always running in short steps? There was not waddling in the first movie, and this was not a welcome addition. All the "butt" shots were also mean-spirited. It seems that the writer and director took enjoyment in making Renee run around like a chicken without head.
Really sad indeed. Now I have to watch the first one again to find out why Bridget was so enchanting in the first place. This movie made me want to get up and leave the theater. It is not even worth waiting for the rental. |
