HUMILIATING AND INAPPROPRIATE...

One of my best friends and I were looking for a good movie to watch on a Friday night to feel like we were in junior high again since we are both 21 now and junior high was a long time ago. Usually we would pick flicks like Mean Girls, Lizzie McGuire Movie etc. I wasn't too crazy about seeing this one from what I saw in the previews but my friend was in the mood for it so I was like, "Why not?" We felt kind of silly going into the theatre since THERE WERE ONLY LIKE FOUR PEOPLE in the entire theatre! And the movie... um, let's just put it this way: My friend and I left the theatre HUMILIATED for picking this shoddy excuse for a movie on our Friday night. There was a six-year old with her mother (what she was doing there at a 9:30 pm showing is beyond me), and she kept shrieking about how she loved that movie. A SIX YEAR OLD. Someone that is not even old enough to POST ON THIS SITE! My friend was like "Omg, we just saw a movie that a six-year old likes.” It would be one thing if the flick was of SOME QUALITY like Mean Girls or Lizze McGuire where even though it's a teenybopper flick, it's still not EMBARASSING to say you saw it! I have NOT told ANYONE I have seen this b/c it was just so flawed and stupid. The number one thing I hated about the movie was the dialogue!!! OMG, IT WAS SO STUPID. I wanted to slug that Julie girl when she would say "Follow" to the other girls and tilt her head in the direction she was going. So annoying. I thought it had crappy knockoff pieces of Sixteen Candles in it (but I wouldn't want to insult Sixteen Candles too much b/c that is a good quality movie). Also I don't get what the deal is with that girl that played Stacy - she is IN EVERYTHING now, and I can't figure out why. She's a horrendous actress. Alexa Vega has got somewhat potential (nothing Oscar-worthy) but she needs to start playing in GOOD movies – not this and that Spy Kids junk. Plus, I was trying to figure out why they were dancing to a song that I danced to when I was in junior high only like, 7 or 8 years ago! The plot was messed up too but I just couldn't stand the dialogue - I HATED IT. I also found the catfight scene disturbing – wow, what a great way to show 6 year old girls how they should behave towards other girls and that they should fight FOR a guy that will push you to make out with him while seeing someone else behind your back… the Spice Girls would be so disappointed to discover that their song is used in such an ANTI-girl power flick. I find it very sad that good quality low-budget movies from here and abroad have a hard time getting into theatres and usually never end up in the big theatres that have a monopoly on the cinema world while crap like this ends up in these theatres no problem. Once it hits theatres, it tortures older kids and teens who know better and brainwashes small 6 year old minds. This movie did so NOT deserve a PG rating! PG-13 at least! I can’t even list everything that made it exceed the PG rating, but I will rattle off some stuff: The popular girls hold up thongs seductively (um, only totally inappropriate for a “kids’ movie”), the girls all sneak into a club that 18-year olds can’t even get into, a high school teacher hits on a student “without realizing it (how could he not realize it with her only wearing sunglasses?),” the main character gets a text message “Sex on the Beach” which means a drink but at first she thinks it’s the actual act (not family movie appropriate at all!), a guy gets undressed (completely) while the main character observes (ok, they make adult movies with these types of scenes!). Alright, parents, now that you’ve read what I just listed as the FEW things that make this movie not PG, would you take your kids to see it? Decide for yourself, but I wouldn’t! We should all be insulted that the film industry thinks we’re so dumb that we will take in this garbage and be entertained by it. If you're over 10 years old, DON'T BOTHER. However, if you are UNDER 10 years old, YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN BE SEEING THIS MOVIE BECAUSE OF ITS DISGUSTING CONTENT. Hence I guess I must conclude that NO ONE should see it! You will leave the theatre HUMILIATED for seeing this crap - and when your friends laugh at you for seeing it, YOU WILL NOT be able to say it was worth it since it’s not even guilty-pleasure worthy. Want a guilty pleasure? See Mean Girls or anything but this movie. |
