Wow! I never thought this movie would be this funny- or very funny at all for that matter. It looked like one of those movies with all the funny parts in the trailer- I was wrong. Granted, several of the funniest bits are in the previews- but not everything. From the previews this film also looked a bit creepy...but turns out, the creepiness sort of disipates when you watch the full movie, and their appearence turns out to be just hilarious!
The story follows Kevin and Marcus (Shawn and Marlon Wayans), two failing FBI agents whose latest assignment is to pick up hotel heiresses Brittany and Tiffany Wilson and take them safely to the Hamptons for the weekend. The girls have a kidnapping threat on their head, and the FBI decides the best way to catch the crooks is to catch them in the act. Unfortunately, their is a car incident that leads the girls to have "permanent damage"- aka. scratches on their face- and decide they could never go to the Hamptons "looking like this!" With their jobs on the line they decide to pose as the girls for the weekend in order to catch the bad guys. Hilarity ensues.
Their isn't an original bone in this film's body. It tackles the same topics as other movies, but it gives 'Dodgeball" a run for its money in terms of that 'funniest movie of the year' logo..."Dodgeball" I think comes out the victor...but the fact that this film gives that one a run is shocking. I laughed, a lot (!) during the first hour of this movie. I say first hour because, in traditional slapstick comedy ways, the film starts to fizzle when everything tries to start wrapping up happily for our heroes.
Had the movie been able to keep up the same hilarious trend I would have awarded it an A-, possibly a full A. Nevertheless, it does fizzle a bit. Although it does, it is still funny as it simmers down. But by that point you are really just sick of laughing anyways. I don't like to give away what is funny, but the entire theater was rolling in the aisles more than once.
Marlon Wayans is probably funnier than Marlon in this- which I think is how it has always been. Still, they both have great comedic chemistry together- and they should, being brothers and all. The rest of the cast is also very good. Jessica Caulfield, Brittany Daniels and Jamie King are the biggest stand-outs, delivering funny performances across the board.
I laughed a lot during this movie. The entire audience laughed a LOT during this movie. It was an hilarious romp from beginning to nearly the end, where it becomes slightly amusing. Still, out of the films opening this weekend, it's a safe bet that "White Chicks" will be the most hilarious of the bunch. |
