Ebert writes, "I don't know what kind of movie I was expecting 'Luther' to be, or what I wanted from it, but I suppose I anticipated that Luther himself would be an inspiring figure, filled with the power of his convictions. What we get is an apologetic outsider with low self-esteem, who reasons himself into a role he has little taste for."
That's kinda the point. God uses the most unlikely men to glorify His name. I've never seen a movie so faithful to lifting up the name of Christ and the importance of the Bible. The movie was unflinching in portraying the fact that the Bible changes lives. Everyone who encountered the New Testament in this movie was changed completely. A rare, rare find.
Joseph Fiennes is such a good actor.
I only have one complaint. Why do all the evangelical Christians in America and on TBN insist on rallying around crappy movies like "Left Behind" and "Omega Code"... movies that are so poorly made and poorly acted and so blatently deviate from scripture... why do they rally around and cry over and plead with people to see those movies and then when a Christ-centered, gospel-giving, well made and acted movie like this comes out, we don't hear any pleadings or see any rallyings from any of those same people? (I apologize for the run on sentence... too lazy to correct it) As Christians let's encourage everyone we know to see this film. |
