I can't say that I was sitting in the movie theatre wishing I could get my life back. This movie wasn't terrible or very painful. But it wasn't good either. It was just kind of there, and it was ok.
As a girl who grew up as a major Olsen Twins fan, I must say that this movie was pretty much "It Takes Two", only slightly older and therefore with more focus on the girls and less on the parents. I decided to watch "It Takes Two" again to get a comparison. In that movie, the girls played people with opposite lifestyles and an absence of a real mother. And that's the big thing about the Olsen twins: you can't insult their acting, cause they've been playing the same part since they were 9 months old. (Speaking of Full House, the ultimate highlight in the movie was the 5-second cameo by Bob Saget, their old widower of a Father. He's just kind of there, staring at the two 17-year-old girls as they run through the streets of New York in their towels.)
For visuals, I gave another decent review, since the camera-work wasn't bad. As well, I always love watching movies that are so obviously filmed in Toronto, I can name landmarks. (The GO train now apparently goes not only to the Toronto suburbs, but the New York suburbs as well! And that subway station with the big martial arts scene sure looked a lot like Bay Street station...)
But overall, I must say this movie is the sort of movie you watch when you're at home alone with nothing to do, and it's the only thing on TV. So I gave it a C+. Cause I'm sure I'll catch it on the Family channel in 10 years. But all I can say is what I said before: It's not bad, but it's not good. It's just ok.
To sum up this rather random review, I'm sure there's some 9-year-old girl who, like me when I was 9, is in love with the Olsen twins and will see this movie a gazillion times until not a line goes un-memorized. And, honestly, I see no harm. The Olsen twins are wholesome compared to a lot of other crap out there, and must be quite intelligent, not only because they were born in the year 1986 (the greatest year of birth) but because they've made millions off of themselves. Really, the only harm I can see is that this little girl will grow up thinking Oxford is in London. |
