I love both series.

Alien: A CLASSIC.
Aliens: AlSO A CLASSIC.
Alien 3: NOT TOO BAD.
Alien Resurrection: WATCHABLE AT LEAST.

Predator: AWESOME.
Predator 2: OKAY TO WATCH EVERY NOW AND THEN.

As you can tell, sequels are almost never better than the first film. These franchises are no exception.

AVP may not be as good as Alien (part 1 or 2) or the first Predator movie, but its at least as good as the sequels (definitely better than Alien Resurrection and Predator 2 though).

Now, between the two, I'm more of an Alien fan, and because of that, I LOVED the fight scene between an Alien and two (2) Predators. Alien OWNS Predator. Most people assumed the Predator would be superior in a melee fight, well, I always thought the Alien would win one-on-one, and my point is proven not once, but TWICE. That one scene made the whole movie for me.

Some parts are a bit corny, but the things that work in the movie do far more than make up for it.

What I liked:
1. ONE (1) Alien OWNS two (2) Predators. Better believe I loved that.

2. Special Effects... they are awesome in this flick, much improved over the special effects of previous entries in both series (except for a little CGI, more on that later).

3. A bunch of Aliens

4. Three Predators.

5. Lance Henriksen's character name... Charles BISHOP WEYLAND (For those familiar with Alien mythology, the name Bishop and Weyland will be recognizable).

6. Sanaa Lathan (VERY easy on the eyes, and not a bad actor at all).

Now, what I DIDN'T like:

1. The story... although it wasn't the worst story ever (see Batman and Robin), it really isn't all that great when compared to the original Dark Horse mini-series of Aliens vs Predator. THAT would've been one of the best movies ever made had the script been based on the comic book.

2. Facehugger + slightly attractive woman's face = Chestburster... okay, that normally wouldn't be a bad thing, but in this movie it was SO rushed that had I blinked I may have missed it. In the other Alien movies, it takes at least 24 hours before the alien would pop out a persons chest. Even the facehugger would take a while to lay the embryo inside. In this movie we're asked to believe that the facehugger can implant the alien, die, then the alien grows strong enough to burst out, then grows into a full grown alien, all within a few hours or less. Couldn't they at least have made it seem that a day or so went by? Is that asking so much??

3. Alien vs Predator fights... A good thing, yes. Is there enough fighting between them to satisfy? NO! The fights are pretty short (though awesome to watch), and theres only a few fights. There should have been at least two more Predators in the movie, cause three just wasn't enough. Two die within minutes of eachother (but at least that made the Alien look more cool than usual).

4. Running time... could an extra half hour hurt? Hell no. This movie seemed so damn short. However, I have a suspicion, which leads me to...

5. Rating... This movie is rated PG-13, WTF?!? As I was saying, I suspect there will be an R rated version when this movie hits DVD, which will probably add more gore, and hopefully make it seem a LOT less rushed in the story.

6. CGI... while some of it wasn't that bad, the Queen Alien was a little overdone in this department. Since when is the queen so damn HUGE? Okay, maybe they vary in size, but this one was like a damn T-Rex, and was a helluva lot faster and more agile than the Queen we all know and love from Aliens.

Well, in the end, I'd have to say I did enjoy this movie for what it was. It set out to put two franchise creatures head to head, and in some parts it worked just enough to keep me entertained. Sometimes thats all I ask for. Had it been up to me, the movie would've been quite different, but it could've been a lot worse, it could've had an ending that made it really seem like the outcome was a draw, but I truly believe the Aliens OWNED the Predators' asses. Some may argue this, but go see it and judge for yourself.

ALIENS OWN PREDATORS! Had to say it one more time, lol.

End of review. Case Closed.
