OFFCIAL: Critics just dont get it...

On your Yahoo movie section just look at the huge contrast at the ratings given to RESIDENT EVIL : APOLCALYPSE by the so called professional movie critics and those by general users ( whom I might add are in the overwehlming majority).
WHat Baffles me most is that there isnt even one decent movie critic review which gives movie the proper credit it deserves. This movie wasnt SUPPOSED to be an oscar caliber drama and dialogue. It is based on a video game and novels which has a huge cult following.What these aged critics dont get is that it is OKK or a movie based on video games to be cheesy at moments. That is deliberate and is meant to involve the audience. Any one who has played the games knows the complexity and depth of the entire Umbrella conspiracy and the characters involved. Tose who have seen the first RE movie know that in this short hour and a half time, the movie makers have done a damn good job o ftelling the story and covering the main points so that even an uninitiated person can understand and grasp as to what is going on.
This movie was directed towards those who are horror genre freaks, RE appreciators and the loyal legions of RE cult (most of whom are under 30).
Some of these critics raved about Dawn Of The Dead as the best horror remake ever. One of them was Roger Ebert. Granted I enjoyed the movie as well, but plot wise , acting wise it doesnt surpass Resident evil and definitely lacks the luster of RE's graphics and visuals. Well, I guess thats because DoD was first released when these overweight joy killers were young and now out of mere delightful dejavu felt compelled to ignore their dismissive impulse directed at any modern day late summer (and at times cheesy) blockbusters.
Name any other movie based on a video game which can even come close to the thrills RE has provided its fans: not tomb raider, not final fantasy, not house of the dead.
The opening weekend sends a verdict tot he critics: you have poor credibility and lack objective juxtaposing ability. |
