If you simply expect Princess Blade to have good action scenes, then you won't be disappointed. The fight choreographer was Donnie Yen, Hong Kong action star, choreographer, and martial artist. The fight scenes were very well done, without extensive wireworks. The sword fights were fast and brutal. However, Princess Blade is much more than an straight action movie. Yes, there is some serious sappy soap opera moments. But those scenes are crucial to Yuki's (the title character) rediscovery of her humanity. There is a deep philosophical undertone to this movie. The quiet moments in the movie are fairly important, but I recommend that you watch an official release or watch it with someone who can translate Japanese for you. Otherwise, you will lose the impact of Yuki's evolution.
