Wonderful in its Originality, Style and Rawness!!

This film was one of the best movies I've seen in 2003. It may also be the best Eastern based action movie I've seen since the Shaw Brothers 1970s kung fu flicks. The Princess Blade(TPB) offers a no strings attached, rollercoaster heart-attack, action flick(that seem so real at times) and plot (that always seem real). What this combination of really good fighting and acting does is create a new kind of three dimensional film that wraps us up in the characters, and never leaves them on stage to be dull Shakespearian puppets but elevates each of them to something ethereal and raw relative to our present reality. This effect creates a really enjoyable movie. The combination of thought-out and diverse characters, good directing/acting, and no-string fight scenes, will leave you with tears in your eye and your jaw wide open the same time. At times the story does expand into the political arena and becomes corny and cliche but this is only a small percentage of what the film offers. You, like I, may not care for Japanese politics in the year 3010 but there is still a good (un-cliche) love story here and some even better (also un-cliche) gunplay and sword fighting scenes.
Overall the movie's biggest market and greatest quality is its style. The filmography and score is very lush and creative and never cheesy or non-attentive to detail like other low budget imports. This film pays great attention to character and scene detail that compliments the acting and action scenes.
Bottom line: The best blend of acting and action I have ever seen in a movie. Even though the soft parts (the love story etc..) of the movie can be edited better, the hard, fighting parts overwhelm any flaws that the Princess Blade may be critized for.
