Bewitched is not as bad as the critics make it sound. Its a thoroughly enjoyable, and tolerable romantic comedy. I really liked Nicole Kidman, and Will Ferrell, and I thought they both played their roles very well, and they have some scenes where they display great chemistry. Steve Carrell is also very funny in his cameo as Uncle Arthur.
However, Bewitched tries to be more then it should be. The execution of this movie is very poor, and somewhat confusing. First Nicole Kidman, likes Will Ferrell, then she hates him, then she wants him to fall in love with her, then she doesn't, then she wants to be with him again. The movie eventually gets its point across but it does so in a poor fashion.
I think I would've liked this movie more, of a) it wasn't based on Bewitched, and was another silly romantic comedy, without the whole witch subplot. or b) the movie tried to be more like Bewithched, and less like a romantic comedy.
Although by the end of the film you don't feel cheated or used, you to feel a bit unsastified, but it is definately a good waste of two hours. Go see this movie for Nicole, and Will's great performances, and for its witty jokes, and crazy senarios. |
