Hayao Miyazaki is emotional without becoming sacchrine, moral without being preachy and above all, it is expressed through his signature art that have bridged cultural barriers. Although not superior to the Academy Award winning "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle" embraces all the elements that make it magical. As usual, there are mystical beings, evil witches and noble wizards, and of course the innocent protagonist who is dramatically changed by their involvement with Miyazaki's larger than life characters. Christian Bale of "Batman Begins" give voice to Howl, a handsome, egomanicial wizard who gets involved with ordinary Sophie, voiced by Engligh rose Emily Mortimer. Comic genius Billy Crystal is the fire demon Calcifer who provides the story's humor. Other Hollywood legends also lend their talents to bring Miyazaki's poetry in animation to life. |
