Better Than Spirited Away

I took my father and his cousin to see this movie. We all really enjoyed the film, most notably for the following reasons: it challenges mainstream ideals about beauty (both male and female beauty), the primary female character underwent a positive internal metamorphosis and became empowered (but accomplished this while remaining within the traditional "female sphere" of domesticity, which made her particularly intriging), the details were delightfully whimsical, and amongst the film's messages are an avid disapproval of war and violent technology. I really didn't know what to expect when I entered the theatre, but I was happy to find that the plot (while a bit ethereal) followed more Westernized patterns than had 'Spirited Away,' and was therefore easier to follow. |
