Being a film school studen, I may tend to look at movies more critically than others. If for nothing else, my own education. At a time when blacks in Hollywood like Halle Berry, Wesley Snipes, Will Smith, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, and others are trying to BREAK black stereotypes, it seems that some filmmakers, especially some black directors, are hell bent on perpetuating them. Why?

A black run airline where everyone talks jive, ebonics, smokes blunts, uses urban street slang for everything. Not to mention the proverbial "bootylicious" females with their exaggerated behinds, and lest we forget Tom Arnold, playing the token white guy who loses his girlfriend to a stereotypical well hung guy named Jerome.

Pretty much every stereotype is there, so take your pick. This is one of those movies that shold never have been made. To see an intelligent treatise on black experiences with an intelligent flair, see "Barber Shop" or John Singleton's excellent "Boyz N' The Hood". Soul Plane? I'll try to pretend it never existed.
