If you are a fan of balls-out gory horror, you will love this flick. If you don't, you won't. I love the original classic, it's one of my all time favorites, and to be honest, when I heard it was being remade I was pissed. Every time a horror classic has been made since 1987 it has sucked compared to the original at best, and just plain sucked overall the other times. (sorry you fans of the "new and improved" versions of Psycho, The Haunting, and yes, even Texas Chainsaw Massacre.) Imagine my surprise when this new version was not only entertaining, but bloody as hell. This is not some PC, hint of violence, looks like a stupid ass video game zombie movie. Rather it's well acted, has several gripping set pieces inside and out of the mall, and has great visual effects. These are not the slow lurching dim-witted zombies from George A. Romero's original trilogy, rather they are closer to the so-called zombies from 28 Days Later,(great flick, but those weren't zombies, they were crazy people infected with a disease), in that they are fast and strong. As far as story line goes, this movie also isn't a remake as much as a different story with the same overall setting. The characters are different, (there were only 4 survivors in the mall in the original), as well as other surprises I won't spoil. This movie will probably be blasted by critics who will either slam it because it's not the same as the original, or because actually it's totally different. Either way if you like bloody horror films with good acting and excellent effects, then definately see this movie. If not, go see something else and enjoy. |
