This is a very tired storyline, but Mandy Moore as the President's daughter makes for a nice variation. Whoever cast Mr. "No Personality" (Mark Harmon) as a President with a 63% approval rating and Matthew Goode as "The Hunk" should have their union card taken away however. The guys were about as exciting as watching a fly crawl up a drape! Martin Sheen plays the "concerned Presidenial father" better than this guy. Harmon not only managed to make fatherhood look boring, he made being President look boring. The location shots are great, but the director jumps around so rapidly that it is difficult to keep your time frame set. At one point I turned to my wife and said "This director is so bad he will probably have her [Moore] leave the White House [at Christmas] and go directly to college at Oxford" which is exactly what happened 2 seconds later. Mandy Moore was very "cute and sexy" in this role and played the transition from high school student to college student very well, but the plot is so old and tired that my enthusiasm just wasn't there. It was worthy of a TV show plot, not a major motion picture. The girl sure knows how to kiss thought! |
