When "The Manchurian Candidate" came out in 1962 with Frank Sinatra, it was an instant classic. Having never seen it, I knew I was missing out. So then one day I heard they were making a remake with Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Jon Voight, and the director of "Silence of the Lambs". I thought it would be interesting. Now that I saw it, I want my money back.

This movie was unbelievably boring, in every aspect. This new version opens the same day as M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village", so I was thinking between "Village" or "Manchurian Candidate". "Village" or "Manchurian Candidate". When I walked up to the box office, the words out of my mouth should have been "One for 'The Village' please".

I cannot believe academy award winning actors, as well as director, made a complete bombshell, where it relies solely on making us think throughout the ENTIRE MOVIE. There is not one minute where we get a chance to catch our breath and try to figure out what was going on. If we all had a remote that could pause the movie, then I wouldn't be so harsh, but harsh none-the-less. Just go rent this movie on video or DVD.

I'm going on record here: The absolute worst performance was from Liev Schreiber, as the title character of the Manchurian candidate. All through the movie I just wanted him to actually do something. Way too quiet, although that was the idea, he had probably 12 lines. He talks so slow and so low, the guy next to me fell asleep, and I can't blame him.

But there is one part of this movie I liked, that's it, only one. That was when Denzel Washington was in an interrogation ( I won't spoil why) and the cop says "Why'd you do it? Were you angry? Am I making you angry? Do you want to hit me?" So he punches the guy in the face. That's the only part I like. It made me, as well as the whole audience, laugh.

I don't remember who said it, but some critic said "you won't be able to exhale during the last 30 minutes." True. It was very suspenseful because we knew what he was going to do, so it's just like go do it already, please! Get this crapfest over and done with so I can go home! Good God! This movie proudly goes on my list of the year's worst films. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY CRITIC.
