Intriguing but predictable

I have not seen the original. After having seen this remake, I still have no plans to see the original. The redeeming quality of the film was the terrific acting by Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington. Streep's U.S. Senator character reminded me of a Hilary Clinton on steroids. Denzel departs from his usual role as a type of power player to a seemingly confused, unkempt Desert Storm veteran searching for answers to his suspected brainwashed past. Overall, the movie has a plodding pace mixed in with some intriguing moments, but in the end, becomes too predictable. Denzel and Meryl Streep fans may think this movie is worth the price of admission. Others may want to wait until it comes out on DVD. |
