I have seen many Mamet movies. Most of them are cluttered with complicated and drawn out dialogue. What you need to know about a Mamet movie (and most good movies) is that every scene serves a purpose and has a clue. Sometimes they seem slow and drawn out, but there's a mystery here.
Unlike other reviews, I honestly thought that Val Kilmer was the weak link of this movie. He was too stoic for me.....too emotionless. I know he's an agent, but he was just too boring.
Sure, the plot and premise were far fetched........or were they? It made me think. Not that I think our presidency is that seedy......but you never know.
I would categorize this is a political, crime / mystery / thriller, with special agents. There are plot twists and it's not what it appears at first.
But for a Mamet movie, there is more action than usual.
I liked it. It's not for everyone......just those with a brain. |
