Miracle is a great movie and a great story that goes to show how practice makes perfect. Who would have ever thought that a group of twenty year old kids could have played with the Russian Hockey team during the 1980 Olympics. The Soviets(Russians) were considered unbeatable during these times, and had already deafeted the NHL AllStars
I went to a sneak preview of this movie about a week before it opened. Of course, I knew what would end up happening, but during the hockey games I was on the edge of my seat.
The coach of the American Hockey team(Herb Brooks) was very fascinating. He had been cut from the 1960 American team just before they won the gold medal. After 1960, the Soviet hockey team won the gold in 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976. Then Herb Brooks was hired to coach the 1980 team and try to end the Soviets outstanding run and send them home. Everybody thought that beating the Russians would be impossible. Although this was the case, Brooks believed that he could whip his team into shape and beat the Soviets. He conditioned his American hockey team so well that could skate with anybody and everybody.
The 1980 olympics occured during the cold war. The Americans were always competing with the Russians. This competition made the game a bigger deal and helped to push the American team to beat the Soviets and win the 1980 winter Olympics.
I have seen four good movies since the beginning of this year. Miracle is now at the top of my list for best movies of 2004. Miracle is a great example of team effort and perserverance. I enjoyed every minute of this outstanding movie. |
