I must say that I really do enjoy most of Tom Hanks's movies and believe he is a truly inspired actor. However in this movie, a remake of a fantastic movie made in the 60s staring Peter Sellers, is truly aweful. Tom Hanks attempts to over act, the script adapation is terrible and they try to make a comedy out of a movie that was a drama with a Comedy twist. What made the original so great is that it was indeed a serious crime caper about a robbery that keeps getting messed up by this lady. They keep trying to kill her and it keeps failing. Eventually in the old one, they all die except for one.
This movie is way too dumb and way to comedic. The old version was great because the comedy came not out of trying, but because the situation really seemed real and could happen. The characters were not retarded as Tom Hanks, but were very strong characters who were on a mission to get rich, not on a mission to show out stupid one could be.
Stay away from this movie and go see something else instead. This movie truly is terrible for Hanks and Terrible for the Cohen Brothers who are usually very good directors and writers.
RUN FROM THIS FLICK!
The producers fatal error: THEY MADE A SHOULD BE PG-13 MOVIE INTO AN R RATED F BOMB MOVIE. With ethics aside, the marketing for this movie is tragic at best. They should have aimed this toward the date crowed. (THE OLDER MOVIE WAS G rated) Hummmm how about that. |
