Pretty good -- but no "Kingpin" or "Mary"...

The Farrely brothers have provided all of us with laughs that make our sides hurt and eyes water. "Kingpin" and "There's Something About Mary" have proven this to us: we enjoy their offbeat, tongue-in-cheek, toilet humor that, if done by others, most would find repulsing.
"Stuck On You" follows the brothers' trend of mixing comedy with heart: two adjoined-twins who love each dearly set for the hills of Hollywood to pursue an acting career. Along the way, they become friends with Cher (who undoubtedly offers hilarious moments with her dry, sarcastic comments) and soon catapult themselves to celebrity status. While it isn't the Farrely's highlight of their careers, it is most certainly an enjoyable film and not as tacky or crude as some would think.
The reality of it? Very little -- but who cares? We go to the movies to be taken away to things we might not ever see and, surprisingly, "Stuck On You" does that. It has its moments where the Farrely's comedy is a little bit too raunchy or too cheeky, but nonetheless you can tell they had their hearts in the right place.
Certainly better than several of the releases that are out, I recommend this for those who are feeling like escaping the heavy drama or romantic films and just looking for a laugh or two. It's nice to know we can have a laugh for the holiday. |
