I live in Hawaii. This film was shot on my side of the island of Oahu. It lovingly depiction of the magnificent beauty I see every day. Seeing this on a big screen is like a mini trip to Hawaii.
While it is a comedy and doesn't dissapoint (the local folks all around us in the theater laughed their heads off) it also has a serious side. The decision to be honest rather than continue to support a lie to the girl who has no memory of the days after her accident. It is a risk which the man who loves her takes.
This isn't the best movie of the year, but it succeeds as a fun, entertaining, date movie. Adam Sandler has grown from the happy Gilmore era. But he still knows that his audience would like to see him in a comedy and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Drew Barrymore is more likeable and less of a wildchild in this than we have seen in a long time. She show some subtlety in her portayal of this character.
I would like to have cut out a few crude comments/gestures in the script. Not good for kids in the audience. But all around for older kids up this is a visually rich, cute love story. |
