An amazing piece of filmmaking...

Finally, a movie that boasts an amazing cast -- yet doesn't fall short of anyone's expectations. A film that has a strong story with incredible visuals and impeccable directing.
All three leads (Naomi Watts, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro) give amazing performances in this movie that flies between time frames just as well as "Memento" did. It is this fundamental part that makes "21 Grams" the great motion picture that it is: time is its star. While the caliber of the performances are of highest grade (expect Watts to maybe receive her first Oscar nod, Del Toro with his second and Penn with back-to-back if he is also noticed for "Mystic River"), the timeframes that flash before our eyes is what makes the film so compelling.
Much like "Memento," it is impossible to give a plot summary without giving away details that would ruin the film for any viewer. So, to put it simply, it involves three people who become mysteriously intertwined after a strange car accident. As vague as that might sound, I not only ask you but urge you to see this film. It's just, simply and plainly, an incredible piece of cinematic art. |
