Yeah... no Hollywood formula! My boyfriend and I had great fun watching this brilliant movie. I like the lines Xavier came out during applying school, wandering around Barcelona streets after he just got out of the plane, etc. The scenes are well conducted and very interesting. The path is good - not slow or boring at all. I enjoyed a lot watching how people from different cultures live under the same roof. I liked scenes such as Xavier being interviewed for the apt, language misunderstood between English and French ("university" and "F word"). The sheet posted besides the phone written "not at home" messages in all different languages is a genius idea! It brought back memories during my graduate studies as a foreign student (and boyfriend's). The theatre was full of laughter especially when Wendy's (the English girl who shares the apt) brother pretended to be a gay in order to save his sister from being caught in bed cheating when her real boyfriend showed up all of a sudden. You can see the friendship and brother-sisterhood between people. Being young, you enjoy as many random stuffs without worrying anything. As we walked out from the theatre hand in hand, I just wish I had met my boyfriend during college time. It would be much more fun then. We had a great Saturday night thanks to this movie. Recommended to people who like cute movies and are not brainwashed by Hollywood. If you like Amelie, you will enjoy it. |
