The F's you see there are an understatement. It's like a porn movie without porn, i.e. bad plot, script, depth, acting, it's the worst movie I've ever seen. It seemed like an excuse to show-off Maggie-Q's gorgeous body (not to mention her nipple), and Jewel Lee. I study cinematography and film making at uni, and this is by far an example to me of what NOT to do, and I thank the makers of this horrible film. The film looks like a professional home video, the kind that is made and directed by clueless newbie amateurs, with professional movie making equipment! The movie was soooo bad it was embarrasing to watch.
First of all, the acting was so bad that it hurts. The only decent acting was from Maggie Q and her mum (in the movie). But the script was sooooo bad... such utter crap that it dragged everyones acting through the mud. There was such bad chemistry between Daniel and Charlene. Daniel the cop was just the cheeziest actor. The script had no depth, it was cheezy, plain. Characters personalities weren't excentuated fully. It was really dry, empty and CLICHE. Combined with horrible, D-grade acting, it just sucked as much as it blows. The kid actors were utter crap too, and them being kids is no excuse. There are such things as good kid actors out there, but this movie was probably so low budget they couldn't afford it. They seemed like kid actors from an elementary school play!
The half baked plot was really utter bull. Madame M trains 40 girls for 6 years, accommodates, and feeds them... then gets them all killed leaving 3 alive? I think the writers were trying be too melodramatically morbid. Later one of the team members attacked Charlene's mum? What the hell for? The rape scene was also unnecessary and morbid, also how the little girl got shot for running away. Another bad part was how Charlene was trapped in the bad guys warehouse and was shot by a dart of aphrodisiac... I mean... WHAT THE HELL? The bad guys must think... "Lets really make her suffer by making her horny and perhaps she'll have sex with someone she doesn't even know!!" Another example of some weird rape fetish that this writer has. The bad guy was introduced at the end, so the audience hasn't had time to hate him, in fact we feel sorry for him for his comrade who was killed by Madame M. I think the audience is more mad with Madame M, and were looking forward to some showdown or confrontation between Madame M and her girls, but she was conveniently taken out by this bad guy we've never heard of before.
The action was terrible. Although good in some places, but generaly total crap. A good action movie should make people forget that its all fake. But this movie constantly reminds people that its all fake, because it looks so FAKE!There was a part where a girls throat was slit with a knife, and no blood was shown the throat wasn't slit, due to bad editing, action, everything. The part where Charlene was on her first mission, she was being shot at by 4 guys with sub machine guns and shotguns... you see them shoot up the chair ONLY (not hitting Charlene, the floor, table or wall JUST the chair), missing Charlene, while Charlene kills them all with a handgun. There were so many visible flaws in the action it wasn't funny. The overuse... or perhaps the misuse of bullet time and acrobatic wire just brought out the flaws of the fighting in particular and reminded me that this is just a movie. Though there were some imaginative kills and attacks pulled off, but it was only 2.41% of the total bad action, and some of the cinematography for it was ok.
To conclude... DON'T waste your precious time watching this 93min movie, coz its 93 minutes you'll NEVER get back! Unless you're watching this for educational purposes on what not to do in making movies, or just to be able to laugh at bad movie making. It simply fails in all areas. Thats right... the F's I gave above were an understatement on how bad it really is. This is literally a professionally made home action video. |
