"Sunshine" opens people's eyes towards a better understanding of what love really is. Joel (Jim Carrey) is a shy and lonely man, who's real joy in life is finding Clementine (Kate Winslet)a women who's personality is the extreme in opposite. Their turbulent relationship ends in a bitterly, encouraging Clementine to erase Joel from her memory, (by the medical mind erasing procedure by Lacuna Inc.) in order to mitigate her pain and heartache throughout her relationship with Joel.

Joel, after discovering clemetine's procedure to erase him from her life, decides to undergo the procedure himself out of spite and revenge.

But as the audience look into Joel's memories of his relationship with Celementine, we see tat relationship from the end to the beginning. As we start from Joel's end of the relationship, all we see is heartache, tension and a sense of pity for the couple falling apart. However as the story progresses, we see that bitter and cold memories of their love, turn into memories that Joel wants to keep, which are memories of love, compassion and innocence. By the middle of the procedure, we see that Joel has regretted ever udnergoing the operation, because he finally realizes the underlying moral of the story that the director wants to audience to understand, which is:

Love is something that should not be erased. With love, there lies arguements, imperfections and hurt. But despite all of that, the movie asks the question of "Aren't the memories of love important enough that people should endure the negative aspects of it?"

As we all know love comes with a price, as anyhting else in life. As we let people come closer into our lives, we leave ourselves vulnerable to heartbreak. However, this movie touches upon the point that it is love's imperfections that make love valuable. When we initially break up, we can only think of the negative aspects of the previous relationship. We tend to bury all of the glory and warmth of love when something bad happens in relationships. But Sunshine, shows us that love in the very end is worth the hurt and pain...even if there are more pain than love. Even if love for a loved one becomes a memory, we should treasure it greatly. Because if we were to erase every bad memories that we have, then in the end we would lose who we really are. It is the collection of memories that define us as individuals...even if memories were painful, we should treasure it just as much as good ones.
