I happened to pick this movie up simply because of the artwork on the dvd however to my surprise I found it to be beautifully and wonderfully made. I was so engrossed in the story of the young army private finding himself in love with a transgendered showgirl intriguing. It was so great to see the love of two people come out of the midst of possible heartache, ridicule and inevitable pain. The fact that the young man chooses love above everything else won my heart. I was so in awe of the young man who portrayed the transgendered showgirl as well, his performance was completely breathtaking.
This is a great film also depicts the idiotcy of the US Armed forces and their hatred towards alternative lives which is deplorable. It also showed us that perhaps we should spend more time looking into whether it is beneficial to allow people with such emotional traumatic issues to serve our country. Clearly some of these men were unstable and whether the stability comes and goes through combat can be a problem.
It wasn't until the end of the film that I realized that this was based on a true story which really made my heart wrench in pain. This is a love story that had to be told. |
