This was an excellent film. It had a lot of good, albeit unknown, actors and a solid plot. (the plot comment is a little superflous, as it was a true story and the plot was determined on July 4th, 1999; it couldn't have been changed or tweaked with in any way to better suit TV.) I enjoyed a lot of the scenes that showed men can have normal relationships with transexuals. A lot of people would have you think that transexuals are just there for fetish value (think "she-male" or "chicks-with-..." porn), and that is not true. I have been in relationships with transexuals similar to Barry and Calpernia's, sans death and military gay bashing. In closing, great film, excellent screenwriting, and very talented acting.
(P.S.: Look at the title of my review. "She was the only .... he ever loved." Was Calpernia a man, or was she a woman, or something in between? You be the judge. That is why I replaced the gender in the movie's tagline with ....'s. So you could better answer this question for yourself. I have my own opinion on this, but I won't reveal it, so as not to skew your judgement. Well, what do you consider Calpernia to be? Man, woman, or a little of both?) |
