I'm here to tell you it's real

This movie hit home for me. I'm 42, but when I was 13, (doing the math means this happened in 1974), I went through pretty close to the same thing in AZ. My mom wasn't a loser, but a highly capable, intelligent and educated single-mom professional. Parents just don't want to admit that their kids are doing all these things because they're busy and/or in denial. When it was happening to me, I was a straight-A kid going to Catholic school, but very depressed. When you're down on yourself and lonely, attention from a new popular friend is highly intoxicating. I made it, though; it was a brief interlude in my life that really woke me up. |
