I like the movie. I do. I like Katie Holmes, I like Oliver Platt. However, the direction was a hump that I just could not get over.
The plot is simple. April is trying to create a Thanksgiving for her family. And everything possible goes wrong. Deviant neighbors, a Salvation Army worker, and a senie grandmother. Can you ask for much more?
Acting wise it was decent. April's boyfriend leaves much to be desired, but the rest of the cast carries their weight.
Unfortunately, the direction just hindered the story. The hand held style made it almost painful to watch. I understand the point of using it ... it is supposed to make the story seem closer to reality. However, it seems to just make a cliche statement.
Overall, a decent movie with a bad case of the director ruining most good in it. |
