Homer calls it something else

There have been so many remakes of the
same theme. It gets awfully boring, you
know. So much fine acting skill and all
wasted. They might as well put them up
on some soapbox TV series. We can get
better bleats of worn-out lines then.
If there was anything new, maybe it
was suddenly seeing gung ho in an
ancient Greek epic. Homer would have
squirmed if related to him. And a
jumping neck slash no less. I wonder
if they haven't got it all mixed up
here. As I recall it Homer gives his
heroes shields of 7-layered bullhide
overlaid with bronze and covering their
bodies from head to foot. That would
just be too much ballast to jump. So
switch to a teeny weeny round shield.
But Achilles is king of the Myrmidons
and no common Greek foot soldier -
a hoplite - and no pun intended.
So what new tricks for viewers?
The Odyssey among others haven't really
fared better.
Why not the Aeneid? Now that would be a
good one from Vergil. Aeneas flees Troy
with the sword of Priam. Moviemakers
can let their fantasies run wild with
Aeneas searching for silk hanging like
tresses from Georgic trees!!! |
