Shopgirl is not your average love story. The characters are odd,twisted,and finally very interesting.
Claire danes is a marvelous actress that embodies her characters with depth and realism. Here she plays a lonely woman in search for excitement and joy from her otherwise boring routine lifestyle as a shopgirl in a mall.
She finds hope in two actors (steve martin and jason schwartzman),who seem to fill the empty space in her heart. Swhwartzman's character is a poor,goofy,and outgoing. He meets Dane's character in a laundry mat where he sets up a date for the two of them. She seems to be desperetely drawn to him,in the fact that he is caring.Then comes the twist,with steve martin.
Martin plays a rich,sleek,and demanding man who is attracted to dane's character. she is instantly drawn to him because he is smooth,gentle, and persuasive. Martin's character is nothing like what he seems to be realistically, he is a straightforward cheater who is not in love with Danes.
This film has some very funny moments,also some very strange ones. The performances are touching and real. Even though Steve martin's character is a liar,he seems to care for dane's character when she is sad,as that of a father.
This is a very strange love story that works also a human drama. Claire dane's performance stands out in that she is constantly swept away by these men who seem to fullfill her need of attention.
The film is sexy,strange,and entertaining. I recommend it for fans of the actors and the story. |
