They key to any successful movie is that the viewer should leave the theater with a good taste in the mouth that "the movie was good. I enjoyed it."
This movie delievers exactly that. Being an indian myself, as in many communities, certain restrictions are imposed on us due to traditional values. It somehow seems difficult to dilute the traditional fundamentalism with changing times. The movie shows how traditional values get in the way of the dreams a yound British Indian girl looks at.
Making "curry", cooking "roti", and singing praises of her husband is a cliche of any Indian girl. How about playing football??
Sounds strange? Well, that is what you are all set to witness. A British indian girl is just about excellent playing football and wants to excel in it. But thats not her parents cup of tea. More than that, she falls in love with a white guy? Thats a No No for any indian cliche family. How she hides, runs, and gets her bit of the world is all, "Bend it Like Bekham" is all about.
Wait a second, did you think tha tthe movie is a serious melodrama? Hell No! Its an out and out comedy. The comic scenes are extreamly hilarious and make you laugh and enjoy the good times melt on the big screen.
Its a great thing that the movie is out to be re-released to the massive media - and rightly so. According to me, you wont regret your 10 bucks. Go watch it, its sweet!:) |
