The movie kicks off right away with a feeling like the one in Goodfellas, except this kid didn't want to grow up to be a gangster, he wanted to grow up to be a professional billiards master. After an initial dialogue moment, it sort of takes off in an array of poolhall cliches that were amusing at best, but not new to anyone really.

The side plots were less than entertaining, filling in the empty spaces between what the viewers really wanted to see, the shots. There was some of that as well, with cue men making their best tricks and a couple of them that got recycled from different camara angles, but always fun to see. Probably because I couldn't do it myself. Christopher Walken broke off into one of his monologues that is so characteristic of him, and it was well done with good timing. However, I would have liked to see more of him in the movie as he is always entertaining no matter what he does.

At the end the tension builds with a few things on the line and big money to back it, but I would have liked to see the game more than just a few edited shots of what seemed to be a series of games played between rivals. The scripts was well thought out, and although simple, was entertaining to a certain degree. Again, they should have focused more on the game, reduced the number of side plots, and allowed for more trick shots to be seen. Overall, it was a good movied and very entertaining.
