Most fun I've had at a movie in a while

I guess if you were to generalize, you could call it a "feel good comedy", sort of along the lines of a Shallow Hal. But if you like rock and/or you think kids are great, you will love this movie. Most people fit this criteria, I would think.
The movie celebrates rock and the potential of people in a way that's not saccharine because of Jack Black. He's perfect for this movie. He has the ability to have this rebellious, yet benevolent, edge that is really unique. He's also, I think, a real good physical comedian. He does these power stances and thrasher poses that are exaggerated, yet seem totally genuine on him.
And at the same time he can play the inspiring mentor for kids in a way that's not phony and even perhaps (sniff, sniff) touching.
Parents can totally take kids of any age to this movie, and not have to worry about covering their eyes at all. I'm shocked this movie got a PG-13 rating. And parents, especially if they loved the real rock music of days long gone, may even love the movie more than their kids. In fact, I think it's likely.
I think whether you're a student and just want to go with your friends, whether you want a funny movie you can take your girlfriend to, whether you're a parent and want to take the kids, whether you're parents who drive Volvos and shop at IKEA, it's a nice fun movie to go to. Basically, it's for everyone, unless you totally despise rock n roll and children for some ungodly reason. |
