Sebiscuit is a movie about three different people all of them at the moment losers. Charles Howard (Jeff Bridges) is living too much in the future. He had worked on intruducing automobiles to the west. After a terrible accident in his life he decides to buy a horse, Seabiscuit, with his wife. Tom Smith (Chris Cooper) is living too far in the past as a horse trainer. He is thought of as a nut. This doesn't stop Charles Howard from making him Seabiscuit's trainer. Red Pollard (Toby Maguire) is living too much in the present. After being abandond by his parents he becomes a boxer trying to win prize money, but his real talent is being a horse jockey. Together the three of them and an underdog horse - because of his size - become the attention of America during the great dipression. This movie is a little slow at the begining but becomes a winner towards the end. The chemistry between Bridges, Maguire, and Cooper is incredible. All three of them might be looking at Oscar nominations. The Oscar race is on now that Seabiscuit is in theatres. I don't think there was one person who didn't have a lump in their throat after this movie. It was aimed to be a crowd pleaser and it truly is. It teaches us lessons in life. Whenever there is rain (a bad moment in life) the sun will always shine after(there will be a good moment in life). I thougt it was great how Seabiscuit made three losers become real winners in life and how the three of them made Seabiscuit a winner at the same time. When all is said and done everyone walking out of the theater will feel like winners. |
