It was simple. It was pure. It was everything that the 21st Century is not, and I think we all miss it. Watching this romp through the early 1900's is enjoyable for so many reasons, and the only thing that kept this movie from being an A+ in my mind was certain ommisions from the real life adventures of Seabiscuit and Red. Add in an extra 30 minutes, pick up a couple of the important details, like RED'S wife who is completely ignored, and finish it with a bit of WHERE ARE THEY NOW. McGuire, Cooper, Bridges and the 8 horse who actually played Seabiscuit are all brilliant. We need more of these character driven stories in these, the days of big budgets for big explosions. This rags to riches story will go down as a classic, and should garner more than one Acadamy Award, maybe into the double digits in nominations, if only LOTR III wasn't going to clean sweep everything away... |
