Ben Kingsley is Superb! Oscar!

There are three things that stand out in this film that I haven't stopped thinking about since seeing it 2 days ago. 1.) The Iranian culture prior to the fall of the Shah. Anyone who has had the priviledge of knowing what Iran was like not too long ago will shudder. From a brilliant wedding scene to pouring a cup of tea, if you know Iranians like I do, you will understand what a beautiful people they are and how poignant those scenes were 2.) The cinematography. The scene where Jennifer Connelly is about to commit suicide in the bathtub is absolutely riveting! 3.) The acting. While I found that the book did a far better job of character development, the performances by all were magnificent. If Ben Kingsley does not win the Oscar for Best Actor, then I will lose all respect for anything Hollywood. I don't remember the last time I was moved by such a performance! Bravo. Bravo. Bravo. |
