A unique triumph in disaster.

There is definitely something to be said for someone who has the courage to show a painful disintegration of his own decade-long project. Terry Gilliam has given us a view of the unglamorous daily grind of professional film-making that most people take for granted. He shows how painstakingly difficult it is to pull off truly original and unconventional film-making in a time when the bottom dollar is the overwhelming drive to make films, not artistic vision. This is not to say one can exist without the other in the realm of high-budget filmmaking; but Terry Gilliam earned my respect as an uncompromising artist. This film and Terry Gilliam himself embody the spirit of all that is good about filmmaking—rent this… it’s a candid insight into a rare figure in an otherwise artistically compromised industry. |
