Shottas is a film that will go down in the history books. A low-budget film with a big budget storyline, surprisingly better than average acting and the energy to attract a mass underground following.
Previously released in the underground market, Shottas contains the elements of a good "gangsta flick" and adds to that the element of the Jamaican culture. Most liken this biographical work to that of Belly (Nas, DMX, Tionne Watkins). The movie however, featuring an all-star cast of reggae artists and Jamaican actors (Louie Rankin, Spragga Benz, Kymani Marley, Paul Campbell), covers more bases than Belly or Paid In Full.
Rumors have that the film is on its way to the big screen...finally. But sadly, this underground phenomena may have made more money in sales on the "bootleg" market than it may possibly make in Hollywood. Well at least we can look forward to a professional DVD released copy. |
