I've spent over a decade in Christian schools, and this movie really hit home. I know how Mary feels, my boyfriend ended up gay, and it hit me really hard. When the rest of the school found out, he was instantly considered a sinner. I am not at all saying that there's anything wrong with Christian schools. There is a problem with them being very narrow minded, as most of the schools are either Lutheran or Catholic, which are based off of the same ideals and are generally more strict than others. This film is not anti-christian, it just emphasizes how they can be too narrow-minded. There is always the popular kids--even in a Christian school. They can be just as cruel as anyone. This film was excellent and I recommend it to anyone, and I've especially recommended it to my friends who don't go to Christian schools. |
