Walt Disney films never disappoint. They are always good, clean entertainment.
Jackie Chan's Around the World in 80 days is that and much more.
It is a great film. I really enjoyed it.
Jules Verne couldn't have been happier with this latest adaptation of his voyage imaginaire. It is undoubtedly the best so far.
No more a suave Phineas Fogg or a sullen, arrogant Passepartout. Here the Englishman is honest, passionate, impetuous and down-to-earth.
And of course, Jackie chan has finally come of age. At 50 - as Confucius he say - he knows the decrees of Heaven.No more the incidental comic. The rhythmic one-two of kung fu is still there but smoother, faster and stroboscoped into realistic action.
But Jackie is on a mission. And when the Jade Buddha is finally restored to its rightful place, they all prostrate and catch a glimpse of that enlightenment which will elude relic robbers and ranting reviewers alike.
Sammo Hung too incredibly sheds his frowns and creases from the Martial Law TV series and regains his youthful glory - wide-eyed, chubby faced, loveable.He is inimitable.
And Arnie, you were real kool. D'ya hear?
Heck, this film is everyone's cup of tea and would win the Oscar for Frank Coraci and all thumbs down if it were put to general vote. |
