Marketing for this movie is misleading

To me, the preview looked great - some sort of sci-fi time travel quest.
It's not that at all.
It's a metaphysical journey of one man, the story and his journey chock-full of symbolism and meaning grounded in Zen Buddhism, Mayan mythology with a Judeo-Christian myth chaser.
The movie itself is gorgeous, the acting flawless, the story deeply emotional and deeply depressing.
I had an offer to go see this movie again and could not for the life of me have the emotional fortitude to sit through it again.
It's about life, death, love and loss.
Nothing whatsoever to do with time travel or sci-fi Highlander like journeying.
I can understand why the studio had trouble marketing it, but it will not find its audience being advertised as it is.
Think art house instead of mainstream when you think of seeing this movie. And be prepared for a movie full of negative emotions. The positive is there, but it's overshadowed by the intense grief of the characters.
I gave it decent grades for what it is, but for the story I expected based on the advertising, it should get a D. |
