At first seeing the Yahoo reviews, I figured that this must be a piece of crap. I thought it might be interesting so I Netflixed it.
I believe that that why you gave it such low ratings because you didn't understand the great origanal plot. The fountain manages through 3 diferent time periods, each staring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiz. The first story is a book by Izzi, Tom Creo's wife. It is about a man [Tomas-Jackman] who is in search of a hidden Mayan temple which holds the tree of life in it. His Queen Issabel [Rachel Weiz] needs him to find so she can live forever. This book is given to Tom Creo by his dying wife Izzi. He is told to finish it. This story is the memory of Dr. Tom Creo who is trying to finish the book. Each story slowly unfolds and deals with the same concepts of life and death. This all leads to the final sequence. Part Action [Maya] Part Drama [Mordern] Part Sci-Fi [Future]. And In The end, all it is is the simple story of a man trying to save his loved one. It is exciting, emotionally moving and curiously interesting. I love it.
It has vivid proformences by Jackman, Weiz and even Ellen Burstyn. Jackman should have claimed an Oscar.
In fact, these are the Oscars in should have won or at least been nominated for:
Actor in a Leading Role - Hugh Jackman
Actress in a Leading Role - Rachel Weiz
Actress in a supporting role - Ellen Burstyn
Cinematography - Matthew Libatique
Music, Score - Clint Mansell
Art Direction - Isabelle Guay
Michele Laliberte
Nicolas Lepage
Jean-Pierre Paquet
Driector - Darren Aronofsky
Screenplay, Origanal - Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel
YEAH, THATS IT!
In the end it is a touching, moving, well done masterpiece.
First time I've ever given a film a A+ for story.
I Love It!
